No. 8 Colorado College scored the game’s final three goals, including Max Burkholder’s strike 1:08 into overtime to defeat Air Force, 3-2, on Friday night at Robeson Arena.

The victory allowed the Tigers to retain the Pike’s Peak Trophy, which it has held since 2018.

Air Force played a determined game and rode a strong start to a 2-0 lead. Sophomore Brendan Gibbons scored midway through the first period when he picked up a loose puck in the right faceoff circle and ripped it past Kaidan Mbereko (20 saves).

Senior co-captain Clayton Cosentino made it 2-0 halfway through the second. Like Gibbons’, the goal was his fourth of the season.

The Tigers (5-0-0) drew to one on Klavs Veinbergs’ power-play goal with 6:04 to play in the second. They kept the momentum going in the third and tied it on Drew Montgomery’s goal from right in front of the net one minute into the third.

Goaltender Guy Blessing played a strong game for the Falcons, stopping 30 shots. Air Force killed three of four penalties but could not convert any of its three power plays.

Next: The teams meet Saturday at 7 p.m. at Cadet Arena. Flohockey.tv has the broadcast.
