Air Force solved its scoring problem on Saturday night, but it learned it can’t let up, particularly against a ranked and determined team.
No. 9 Notre Dame scored four times in the third period to salvage a 5-5 tie with the Falcons in an Ice Breaker Tournament game at Cadet Ice Arena. Will Gavin and Mitchell Digby scored goals in a shootout for the Falcons.The Falcons saw leads of 3-0 and 4-1 disintegrate in a wild final 20 minutes.
Nate Horn scored two power-play goals, Brandon Koch had one, and Koch’s defense partner Luke Rowe and Bennett Norlin scored even-strength markers for Air Force (0-1-1). Freshman goalie Aaron Randazzo under siege for the second night in a row, turning aside 32 of the 37 shots on goal.
Five players scored goals for the Irish, who tied it on Chicago Blackhawks prospect Ryder Rolston’s tally with 1:12 left in regulation and goaltender Jack Williams pulled for an extra attacker.
Air Force had 29 shots on goal, its power play went 3 for 3. The Falcons also blocked nearly twice as many shots as their guests, 19-10.
