It took some extra time but Air Force outlasted Ohio State to win the Ice Breaker Tournament on Saturday night at Denver. Here are the Falcons’ three stars:
Shane Starrett
The sophomore goaltender made 50 saves, including a handful at point blank in both overtimes, to give the Falcons a chance. That performance came on the heels of 37 saves in Friday’s victory over No. 5 Boston College. He was selected the tournament’s MVP.
Tyler Ledford
The junior center was on the ice for all three of Ohio State’s goals, but he scored the one that clinched the title. And it was a dandy. I lost count of his backhand-forehand moves at 20.
Ben Kucera
The junior right wing scored for the second night in a row on the power play, and this one was a snipe from between the top of the circles. It staked the Falcons to a 2-1 lead midway through the second period.
